The ultimate low-end enhancement tool
Bass XXL builds on the success of Denise Audio’s original Bass XL, offering a more powerful and versatile solution for low-end enhancement. Whether you're working on bass lines, kick drums, toms, drum busses, or even full mixes, this plugin helps you add controlled weight and depth where it’s needed most, without over-complicating your workflow.
Silky harmonics made for bass
Bass XXL uses a purpose-built harmonics algorithm designed specifically for low frequencies. Unlike sub-synths, it generates harmonics directly from your dry signal, producing a more organic result that naturally blends into your mix. You get the warmth of analogue-style saturation, the accuracy of digital processing, and the clarity of oversampling without phase issues.
Relieving the pain
Getting bass to translate across headphones, phones, and laptop speakers is one of the toughest parts of mixing. Bass XXL addresses this directly by making your low-end content more audible through harmonic enhancement. It doesn’t fix everything, but it solves a major part of the problem, helping you make confident low-end decisions faster.
See what can't be heard
Use the low-end spectrogram to see exactly what the plugin is adding. It shows your dry and processed signals side by side. Need to view the full frequency range? Click the magnifying glass icon to expand the view.
Not your average bass synth
Bass XXL isn’t generating bass notes from scratch, it’s not a sub-synth. Instead, it creates harmonics from your existing audio and blends them back in using a controlled frequency band. This taps into a psychoacoustic effect that helps the brain "hear" low end, even when the actual sub frequencies are missing. Ideal for mixes that need to sound full on small speakers.
It’s also low on CPU, introduces no phase issues or latency, and keeps your mix intact. Because all harmonics come from your original track, the result is clean and musical like enhancing what’s already there than adding something new.
Boost with precision
- Frequency: Target a specific frequency to add punch, weight, or definition to your low end. Ideal for enhancing kick drums, percussion, one-shots, or grouped tracks in a mix.
- Root Note: When processing melodic content like bass guitars or synths, select a root note to ensure that harmonic additions stay in tune with the rest of your track.
- Midi: Connect MIDI to control the plugin in real time. Bass XXL will follow tonal changes in your bass line or instrument, keeping harmonics musical and dynamic throughout your track.
Add some magic
- Harmonics: Set the strength of harmonic generation using the Harmonics knob. The plugin reacts musically to your dry signal, so you can dial in more without ruining balance. Oversampling can be enabled for cleaner, more detailed processing.
- Boost: Use the Boost control to mix in harmonics in parallel—your original signal stays untouched. This keeps the bass position and dynamics consistent while still adding weight. Activate Solo mode to hear the harmonic content in isolation.
Control the low-end your way
- Pre-delay: Apply a slight delay to the generated harmonics to preserve the transients of your dry signal. This keeps your bass punchy and clean without smearing the attack.
- Mono: Keep your bass centred or retain stereo width depending on your needs. The Mono knob gives you control over how Bass XXL handles stereo imaging in the low end.
- Slope: Shape the roll-off of harmonic content with the Slope control. Use a gentle curve for a smooth, analogue-style feel, or a steep slope for more focused and surgical enhancement.
- Range: Set how far up the frequency spectrum the harmonics extend. A wide range makes the effect more audible and aggressive, while a lower range keeps the enhancement subtle and controlled.
