The Throbbing Gristle ONE now comes with a whole new sound palette. Two new and exclusive cards are filled with Throbbing Gristle samples that have been curated by Chris Carter. Sounds have been collected from his archive of original studio sessions. The first card offers 128 percussive sounds and audio snippets, whereas the second card features 128 longer samples that include pads and loops. All the samples have been mangled, modified and reworked in some way to give the user a unique Throbbing Gristle sound palette. Additionally, you can also integrate your own SD cards with your own samples on them.
As well as the new design and samples, Tiptop Audio TG ONE also brings in two new modes that take you into new sonic territory. The first mode is a random file selection on each trigger input, which is great for creative innovative rhythms. The original ONE module played the next sample of a previously created file list with each incoming trigger signal, whereas the TG ONE chooses audio snippets randomly. The second mode is looping playback that randomly seeks within a sound file with each trigger. When this mode is active, the module will start playing that selected sample in a loop as soon as a trigger pulse is detected.
The TG ONE module is equipped with a user-selectable multi-function jack which can be used to handle external CV. Pitch is the main control with two available modes that are Free Pitch or Quantized Pitch. Free Pitch allows for fine tuning of the playback rate, which is ideal for adding subtle vibrato or wild tape speed effects. Quantized Pitch mode maps CV to the standard 12 tone system over 3.5 octaves and is ideal for melodic content. CV can also be used to sequence through files from the SD card, allowing for more varied sounds from a single source. The TG ONE offers another useful dimensions since it can play CV signals too. By dropping in a card with LFO signals, random CV, slopes and envelopes, a whole new set of new control and modulation possibilities open up.
Although the TG ONE module was originally designed to play tightly with Tiptop's analogue drums and envelopes, its rich sound quality encouraged them to make it work in a variety of other applications that were less demanding of sub-millisecond timing response. The extra headroom at the core level allows features such as Gated Playback, Looping, and Triggering with fades in and out to accommodate different types of sound sources from drum loops to polysynth chords, to noise sources and other yet unimagined uses. The TG ONE is simple to use and plays perfectly with its analogue cousins.
