The modules
- Noise: Bring your sound to life with vinyl crackle, tape hiss, and a host of new textures, from dial-up chatter to crowds. Blend noise in pre- or post-effects. Shape noise with Cut filter. Set the noise to follow your track or duck under it.
- Wobble: Perfectly unstable, perfectly in time. Simulate pitch instabilities and speed fluctuations of analog playback. Lock to BPM to create organic rhythmic patterns. Morph between sine and square modulation shapes. Warp the waveform for organic movement. Spread Wobble out for rich, wide chorus.
- Digital: A bit rough around the edges. Add the gritty character of vintage samplers and digital gear, from lo-fi crunch to choked, sputtering fuzz. Lower the sample rate and bit depth for retro bitcrushing. Crank Sputter for a choked, gated “dying battery” sound. Round off harsh edges with Smooth.
- Distort: From gentle warmth to absolute fire. Add grit and grind to color or crush. Saturate a synth, dirty a drum loop, or push your sound until it bursts into flames. New tape, preamp, and 4-track cassette distortion types. Push distortion to its choking point with Overload. Use Focus/Cut to mangle with precision.
- Space: Your sound is going places. Add depth and atmosphere with lush reverbs, characterful rooms and experimental textures, all soaked in vintage flair. Keep busy mixes clear with responsive reverb ducking. Reshape reverb length and timbre with Stretch. Place your reverb in the stereo field with Pan/Width.
- Loss:Give your sound the character of lossy digital audio, with compression artifacts, formant shifts and smeared textures. Dial in packet dropouts for glitchy, fragmented textures. Randomize the phasing of digital artifacts with Blur. Create repeating/freezing packet loss dropout glitches.
The RC-20 you know, with more ways to create
RC-20 v2 isn’t trying to re-invent the wheel but instead provide you with the familiar vintage character of the original plugin while introducing new effects and more flexible processing. Six creative modules cover everything from vinyl noise and tape instability to digital degradation, distortion, and atmospheric reverbs. You can now rearrange the Wobble, Distort, Digital, Space, and Loss modules to explore how different processing chains affect your sound.
New distortion types include Tape, Classic Pre, and Porta, with an additional Overload control for pushing existing algorithms further. The Digital module also introduces Sputter for gated, broken-up textures, while the new Codec mode recreates lossy audio compression artefacts, formant shifts, and glitchy packet dropouts.
Vibey, space-infused delays
The new Echo module brings another dimension to RC-20's sound-shaping capabilities. By placing effects within its feedback loop, each delay repeat can develop a different character as it passes through Wobble, Distort, Digital, Space, or Loss processing. Increase feedback for self-oscillating swells, or introduce pitched and reversed Grains for shimmering, atmospheric textures.>
The Space module also receives 32 new reverb types, covering conventional rooms, halls, and plates alongside experimental options such as Thunder and Spectral. Responsive ducking helps prevent reverb from overwhelming busy arrangements, while Stretch adjusts its length and timbre. Pan and Width controls provide further control over stereo placement.
Add vintage movement that follows your track
Bring the irregularities of analogue recording equipment into your productions with expanded modulation and tape-style processing. Wobble recreates pitch and playback-speed fluctuations, with adjustable waveform shapes, Warp modulation, and stereo spreading for chorus-like movement. Magnetic processing adds tape wear and flutter, including customisable modulation shapes and independent stereo fluctuations.
The new Varispeed feature introduces pitched-down tape playback at half, quarter, or eighth speed while remaining synchronised with your track. Wobble, Magnetic Flutter, and Echo can also follow your project's tempo, making rhythmic effects easier to integrate. For less predictable movement, Flux introduces subtle real-time variations that keep textures evolving naturally.
Find your sound faster without losing your favourites
RC-20 v2 introduces workflow improvements designed to make experimenting with effects quicker and easier. The redesigned preset browser includes over 250 new presets, with searchable tags, filtering, and custom collections to help you find suitable sounds. Random preset selection encourages experimentation, while module locking preserves your favourite settings as you browse.
Additional tools include full undo history, snapshot comparisons, oversampling, master compression, and automatic loudness matching for more accurate A/B comparisons. Magnitude scales processing across the plugin with one control, making broad adjustments straightforward. Importantly, RC-20 v2 installs separately from the original, preserving existing projects while allowing you to import your own version 1 presets.
